Elle Fanning's Milk-Maid Braid

Elle Fanning is such a fashionista! And she's not even old enough to drive. I have blogged about her in the past and each time I see her on the red carpet my admiration for this Ms. Fanning just grows and grows.

The topic of today's post is my obsession with the above pictured hairstyle. I believe that some people called it the "milkmaid braid". But no matter what it's called, I think it is absolutely stunning. It frames her small face perfectly. I also saw Zoe Saldana wearing this look but I prefer it on Elle.

I attempted to copy this look on Saturday and I thought it was a pretty decent copy-cat. When I was at Wal-Mart I actually got two compliments/inquiries about my hairstyle. I concluded that it was a success. What I simply adore about this look is the fact that it is so unexpected and unique. Instead of wearing a simple pony-tail or a messy bun, try the "milk-maid braid".

Style Highlights: Elle Fanning

Elle Fanning is in the new-ish movie, Somewhere. I haven't seen it but the trailer is divine. Link here. But not only is the little sister of Dakota Fanning get rave reviews for her acting. But she's also taking the fashion world by storm. This budding fashionista seems to be everywhere. And from her pictures it isn't hard to tell why.

Elle looks angelic in this simple, yet sweet, dress from the lovely ladies at Marchesa. Her simple hair and lack of jewelry help highlight the beauty and intricate detailing of the dress. The little flare at the hemline seems like a insignificant detail but it holds a big impact. A simple pair of black mary-janes complete the look.

This look is in the total opposite end of the spectrum. But she still looks fabulous. The chaotic mix of ruffles, layers, and plaid may have looked overwhelming on another lady but Elle pulls off this look with a sweet smile and bold confidence. The maroon lace stockings are an unexpected, yet perfectly fitting, accessory. As are the brown and busted Doc Martins.

Elle looks elegant in this structured black gown. The color contrasts beautifully against her pale skin. The bow detail from her dress is mimicked on her printed flats. The milkmaid braid on the top of her head is lovely in its simplicity. Again, Elle keeps the look young and fresh with no jewelry.

This Valentino dress is genius. The way the colors, prints, and textures work together keeps the eye interested and intrigued. Elle pulls her hair back as to not overwhelm the eye-catching patterns and prints of the dress. She also wears no jewelry and keeps her heels a simple nude to keep the attention on the gown and not the unnecessary accessories. Elle looks truly stunning.

Steal Their Style

Steal Their Style #1

1. Go Green
Emerald was a huge trend on the red carpet at the Golden Globes. And although most of us don't get the opprotunity to wear a floor sweeping ballgown every day, that is no excuse to not infuse a little inspiration from mother nature into our wardrobes. Stay causal in these low-rise skinny jeans. Keep warm in a chic parka or add a pop of color in this timeless necklace.

2. Aspire for Men's Attire
Oliva Palermo rocked this menswear inspired look with a tangerine colored blazer and checkered pant. She keeps the look feminine with yellow pumps and an adorable oversized clutch. There are many ways to add simple touches of menswear to our daily lives. A classic button-up and crisp blazer are the most versatile option. For more adventurous fashionistas try a pair of chic oxfords.

3. True Turquoise Envy
Turquoise jewelry is amazing partially for its versatility and partially for its accessability. It can be bought at almost any store within almost any price range. Go boho with turquoise mixed with wodden accents bracelet. Or go bold with these statement earrings. Silver looks stunning with truquoise accents as well--for proof, check out this bracelet.

4. Beautiful Bows
A belt will keep the waist cinched but a chic option is a bow belt. It easily adds a touch of feminity or romance to a simple outfit will highlighting the smallest part of our bodies. Like I said, belts with bows on them are available like this embellshed one. Or cheat and buy a dress or skirt with a belt bow built in like this skirt or this top. So simple but so chic.

Best Dressed: Critic's Choice Awards 2011

The 10th annual Critics Choice Movie Awards happened last week. And I was surprised at the high caliber of style that emerged in this prestigious award ceremony. This is my best dressed post for this event with the ladies listed in no particular order. Who is your favorite?

Mandy Moore shines in a plum Monique Lhuillier gown [left] and Eva Mendes stuns in a lace Valentino mini [right].

Emma Stone in Balenciaga [left] and Natalie Portman in a Gianfranco Ferre gown, Stella McCartney heels, and Dior clutch [right].

Michelle Williams in an asymmetrical white embellished gown [left] and Mila Kunis in a Nina Ricci LBD [right].

All of them look stunning. I hope that your weekend is going great. I'm ready to enjoy my three-day weekend--until I have to start writing my English essays on Monday. Oh, English. You'll be the death of me.
