Style Highlights: Carey Mulligan

Carey Mulligan is a prime example of British style at its best. Ever since she came onto the circuit after she starred in An Education and especially since she was featured in Vogue, I have been in love with this girl's style. She is elegant without looking old. She is totally fashion-forward without alienating the main-stream media. There is balance between style and eccentricity, and Carey has mastered that balancing act.

When I first saw this dress, I wasn't in love but like fine wine [or so I'm told] it grew on me. I saw the way the vertical pleating gave the print of the dress a more eye-catching illusion. The golden wedges were a brilliant idea--not too matchy matchy but it complimented the earthy tones of her dress. Her makeup is understated and I'm in love!

Nina Ricci is known for its elegance and sophistication. What better to wear to the Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps premiere? I love the violet color next to her pale skin and light hair color. A simple pencil skirt and patent black pumps keeps the simplicity of the look. So chic.

Carey Mulligan's smile in this picture only makes her look more beautiful. The intriguing detailing and beading on her bodice are stunning. The full A-line skirt compliments the top perfectly, almost falling to the background letting the statement pieces--the top and those ever-so-chic electric blue heels--take center stage.

Carey Mulligan is a very loyal fan of Prada and she always looks stunning. The purple color is much darker than the lilac top above but Carey still looks lovely in this simple-cut mini. She paired this look with the same simple black pumps and cinched her waist with a similarly styled belt. Tre chic! Like my French?

Thanks for reading! I'll be back tomorrow with a slightly different post than usual. I'm really excited about it. Don't forget to follow this blog! Link is to the right.

Steal Their Style

Steal Their Style

1. Join the Military
Dakota Fanning is slowly becoming a well-known fashionista. She looks effortless and carefree as she goes home after a long day of shopping. If you want to add a bit of edge to your outfit, simply get inspired by the military. Check out this winter trench and cozy drawstring jacket. Or maybe splurge on this cotton military button-up.

2. Do the Denim
Every girl has her favorite pair of jeans. Next time mix it up with a cute denim vest like Jessica Alba's. It will be perfect as the weather warms up for spring. It is important to know that denim on denim is a fashion statement not a fashion no-no. Try a cropped vest to show off your figure. Or maybe you'll like this acid wash vest for a bigger contrast between your jeans.

3. Embellished
Carey Mulligan is one of the hottest British starlets at the moment. And she isn't getting rave reviews for only her acting, her style is sophisticated and drool-worthy. A simple way to add elegance to an outfit is an embellished top. Embellished does not mean gaudy. Try this delicate grey tank or tribal-inspired tank. Or if you're a bit more adventurous check out this embellished cardigan.

4. The Wider the Better
Nicole Richie, boho star, has been spotted sporting these adorable wide-brim hats all over town. They're a simple way to stay cool, stay chic, and hide from the paparazzi. Get a caramel hat with a adorable heart detailing or go for a more structured straw hat. This wool wide-brim hat is super affordable and the ties will make sure it stays secure through rain, wind, and paparazzi.

Don't forget to stop by my personal blog! And I would be so thankful if you followed either, or both, of my blogs. Thank you to all my lovely readers and I'll see you tomorrow!

The Must-Have Hair of 2010

Well, of course the haircut of 2010--other than the Justin Bieber swoop--was the pixie. It seemed like every month or two another famous actress was cutting off her hair while others simply rocked their signature style. This is a look at the best pixie cuts and the most sought after look going into 2011.

Ginnifer Goodwin in Valentino [left] and Christian Dior [right].

Halle Berry in Gucci [left] and Reem Acra [right].

Carey Mulligan in Chanel [left] and Nina Ricci [right].

Emma Watson in Calvin Klein Collection [left] and Burberry [right].

Michelle Williams in Stella McCartney [left] and Sonia Rykel with a Chanel Clutch [right].

The pixie cut is so fashion and stunning--if you have the right bone structure--I just worry that I don't have that structure. My hair is my safety blanket. But maybe 2011 will hold new and exciting things. Today is Christmas. I hope everyone is having a great holiday with their friends and family. I'm waiting for my mom to wake up so that we can finally open presents.

How To: Wear Bold Color

The moment I saw Carey Mulligan in her bright, cobalt heels I knew that I had to post about those bad boys. And then I started to noticed that lately celebs have been loving adding a burst of unexpected color to their outfits with this electric color.

Carey Mulligan in a balck and white beaded dress [left] and Heidi Klum in printed mini [right].

Whether you want to add a pop with shoes both Heidi and Carrey know that these velvet cobalt pumps are the perfect accessory for their very color-less looks. A bold shoes is unexpected as they normally play a supporting role in outfits but these two looks are perfection.

Clemence Poesy in Louis Vuitton [left] and Blake Lively in a Pucci jacket and cobalt pants [right].

If shoes are too subtle for you, there are always skirts and the less obvious option--pants. Clemence looks wonderful in her bold skirt and sub-dued top and shoes. Then Blake looks stunning in her bright cobalt capris and padded shouldered golden jacket. People often forget about their bottom half when they're searching for ways to add color.

Robin Wright Penn in a Matthew Williamson jacket, white tee, and skinny jeans [left]. Gwen Stefani in her own brand, L.A.M.B. [right].

A cobalt jacket is a celeb favorite. Choose a jacket that is fit properly. It will draw the eye to the top half of your body, giving you the chance to camoflauge any unwanted imperfections with black jeans. Throw on a white or black tee and the look is complete. Simple and effortlessly chic.

And this is the end of today's session. Leave any suggestions in the comments. They're really appreciated. And I'd like to thank all of my readers. Especially all the ones who have been with me from the begining. Thank you! And follow if you want to.

Introducing Miss Mulligan

Carey Mulligan was recently interviewed for an article in Vogue. In the article I found her charming and humble. I wish the article had been more about her and less about what other people thought of her but it was intriguing to hear the story about how this English Rose has started to blossom.

The photography was amazing. So many Haute Couture gowns. So much drooling on my part.

When asked by her trainer what she wanted to look like she responded, "I don't want to look like an actress; I want to look like a person." Mulligan wearing Dior Haute Couture gown.

"This need to trump everyone bewilders me. I'm only 25. I'm not better than anyone." Mulligan in a Balenciaga gown and necklace [left] and Givenchy Haute Courture tulle dress [right].

"At 25 I shouldn't be doing the easy stuff. In the future, when I have responsibilities and a family, I can do the conventional stuff." Mulligan in Nina Ricci [left] and Dior Haute Couture jacket with Prada pants [right].

"When I was fifteen, I had vivid dreams of acting with Judi Dench...[then on the] first day of Pride and Prejudice, there was Judi Dench." Mulligan wearing Valentino Haute Couture [left] and Haute Couture Chanel [right].

Carey is one of the stars of the new movie, Never Let Go, alongside Keira Knightley [Pirates of the Carribbean] and Andrew Garfield [The Social Network]. If you want to see Carey's red carpet style, click here.
