NYFW: Part Two

NY Fashion Week is over. No. No. No.

Was that too many 'no's? Maybe just a little. But onto Doo.Ri's Spring 2011 Ready-To-Wear Collection. It was minimalistic--like a lot of other collections--but it seemed like almost every piece I saw, I immediately wanted. Sad, but true.

Chung is known for her monochromatic collections and this year is no different. It was a mix of whites, beiges, icy blue, pale yellows, and kaleidoscopic colors. I'm a fan of classic pieces and this collection was filled with them.

I know that some people thought that the bold prints at the end seemed like an after-thought but I like to think of Chung's collection as a story that started with white--classic, clean, and sometimes boring--moved to beige, blue, yellow, and ended in a crescendo of color. Hey, I really like that. A crescendo of color. :)

I thought at the beginning that it was going to be bland but as the collection went on I realized that it was filled with pieces that were well-constructed and Chung chose not to overwhelm the observer with color but use neutrals to draw the eye to the quality of the garment and beauty of the woman wearing it.

Chung is known for her draping. She creates these simplistic, yet stunning pieces that are so ethereal and elegant. She makes clothes that reflect a woman's natural softness. Whether its a simple, strapless icy blue dress or a more complicated beige dress with a sweetheart neckline. Both will last in a closet and are well worth their price-tag.

Next, I love how Chung incorporated light knits into the collection. They look warm and soft. Perfect for the early days of Spring when Winter weather is still hanging on by the tips of its fingers. The textures and draping of these knits help elevate the garments to another level. The devil is in the details.

Finally, of course I'm going to gush about the tailored pieces. As much as I love a great draped dress and warm knit, I'm obsessed with blazers, pants, and just about anything that requires a tailor. :) These pieces are so versatile. Throw on Chung's crisp ivory blazer over the top of a tee and a pair of jeans and it is perfect for day-time.

But that same jacket adds polish to a summer dress for a day at work. Like I said, so versatile. :) Oh, and that trench. It's crazy. That whole outfit is so...on another level. I can't even describe it.

What did you think? Are you a fan of minimalism? :)

Random on Friday

TGIF!! :) Tonight is another football game. Woohoo! We lost our first game so hopefully we win? Or maybe not lose as badly. There's always hoping. Today I should probably post about something fashion related. Because, well duh, this is a fashion blog after all.

But I feel like mixing it up a little today. Today's post will be completely random and really make little to no sense. :) I hope you guys enjoy and if you don't, I'll post another fashion post tomorrow or on Sunday. I promise! :)
__
I found this on youtube! It's the coolest--okay maybe not the coolest but its still pretty cool. Thanks Randon93! You're my favorite too. :)

[ugh. i can't get the video to appear so I'm just going to post a link. i hate it when technology lets me down] :(

My friend sent this picture to me in an email and I cracked up! The cat even has Robert Pattinson's pasty skin and steamy, smoldering stare. I don't know how people have time to do this type of thing but I guess I blog about fashion and other people enjoy dressing up cats like famous celebrities. Who am I to judge?

I don't mean this as a diss to Robert. I do enjoy the Twilight series. :)

Have you been watching Hellcats. I only caught one episode but I don't know if I like it or not. The drama with the cheer coach wasn't that interesting. I reserve the right to form an opinion until I've seen another epsiode. But, question: Does Martie ever wear a shirt that covers her belly?

Good thing she lives in Memphis otherwise she would get cold. :) [wow. i sounded really stupid just now]

Plus did anyone see Karlie Kloss on Gossip Girl on Monday! I guess I was completely out of the loop and I was sitting there thinking, "Wow. That girl looks just like Karlie Kloss. No...wait! That is Karlie!"

Oh, sometimes I'm so behind the curb. And I guess, that's the first random Friday. Let me know if you want more. If you want less, tell me. I can handle it...I think.

Chanel in Soho

I know. I know. I'm a week behind. With fashion week happening there is just so much to blog about. It's insane! :) But on Thursday Karl Lagerfeld was present when Chanel re-opened their store in donwtown Soho. It was filled with celebrities dressed to impress the fashion icon himself.

But incase you haven't seen the star-studded crowd that attended here's a quick glance at my faves.

Leighton Meester in classic black. I think she looks so sophisticated and I'm so glad that Gossip Girl is back. Ever since the Pretty Little Liars' summer finale I've been deprived of good high school drama. But since Jenny is the only one still in high school I don't think I can actually classify it as high school drama. But you know what I mean.

Speaking of Gossip Girl here's Blake Lively. She took the printed, colorful route. Quite the opposite from her co-star. But with confidence and stunning features, she continues to look effortless in anything.

Alexa Chung. When I think Alexa I always seem to think Chanel. :) This spunky Brit has an amazing sense of humor and style--which the two aren't always mutally exclusive. Her collaboration with Madwell is now available in stores and online. And from what I've seen its really cute. I might go more indepth on a later post.

Chanel Iman. I'll refrain from making a lame Chanel-Chanel joke. :) I know you must be proud. But her dress is gorgeous. The shimmer is fun and flirty. And that bold, red Chanel bag is the perfect accesory. I think its so cute how she's cradelling the bag for the picture. She definately knows how to sell a product, no wonder why she makes the big bucks. Hahaha. Just kidding.

Rachel Bilson. One of my style icons. She's always so confident and put together. Although I'm not crazy about the white fringe dress--I would never be able to pull this off. I think my friends would just laugh at me and tell me to go change. She pulls it off somehow. I wish the fringe didn't go past the edge of the dress but she still looks good. What are your thoughts? Yay? Nay?

Diane Kruger, Molly Simms, Paula Patton, and tons of other stars were in attendance. But I didn't want to make this too long. Especially since I think most people have seen these pictures. I blogged about them anyway because I just love Chanel. There was no way I wasn't going to blog about it. :)

"We'll always have Paris"

Today is Monday and that means school [yuck] but it also means the season premiere of Gossip Girl! :) Yay. There was so much drama last season. Here's a mini spoiler alert if you haven't seen the last seasons finale. But with Dan's baby with Georgina and Chuck sleeping with Jenny.

I'm really sad about Chuck and Blair breaking up. They were so cute together--in a manipulative and kind of evil way. But they just completed each other. Sigh. I hope they get back together but I hate that Chuck slept with Jenny.

Ugh. I don't know why but Jenny just kind of annoys me. I don't like her story lines. They're kind of boring and she's a little bit of a brat. But maybe she's just going through a phase like Serena when she was with that married guy.

Adultary is NOT cool. Just for the record. Okay, spoiler alert isn't over. But its a sneak peak from the opening episode. Its a sample of what everyone--or rather just Blair and Serena with a dash of Chuck at the end--will be wearing tonight.

Also, I found this really cool interview with Eric Damon who is the costume designer for Gossip Girl on Instyle.com. Find out his inspiration behind everyone's style and how some of the character's style will evolve in the coming season. And also what trend does Damon think is "sooooo overdone".

What has B so upset?

There's nothing like a bit of retail therapy to make a girl smile.

Love the shimmer and shine!

Who's that cutie with S? Will he make her forget about all those boys from her past?

C is looking good. Much better than his usual suit and bow tie.

What do you think of Gossip Girl in the city of lights? Oh, don't forget to enter my giveaway. You could win a $75 Target giftcard.

NYFW: Part One

Good morning everyone! :) I'm up really early today. I know that's a little weird. But since I was up I figured I'd write a post. Fashion Week is going on as we speak and sadly I'm not there. :( But that's okay.

But I have seen Jason Wu's Spring 2011 Ready-To-Wear Collection and I love it!

Jason Wu has this ability to take masculine pieces and just make then utterly feminine. The bow details and punches of fuchsia were lovely. And I'm not normally a fan of fuchsia. His collection was whimsical and completely modern at the same time. These are clothes the everyday women--including myself--could wear for years.

The blouses were kind of a con and plus wrapped into one. I mean they're obviously see-through. Anyone could tell that and its sort of a hassle to have to find something to wear under it. I mean when you buy Jason Wu you're dropping several hundred dollars on a shirt.

But I guess the woman who can afford Jason Wu can afford to have it lined. But these blouses are done so wonderfully--excellent cut and fabric choices--I kind of don't mind seeing a ton of boobage all over the runway. But that's just me.

His tailored pieces were perfection. Its a suit and a skirt that young women want to wear. Its a sexy and young. And speaking of sexy and young...that finale dress! Sigh. With Karlie Kloss. It was stunning. The color. The elegance. There's no wonder that this brand has blossomed into a financial success in its short four years. I'm in love but I think I already mentioned that. :)

The funky glasses have to be one of my favorite parts too. I'm a sucker for nerdy-esque glasses. That's why I'm such a fan of nerd day at my school. I wear my 3D glasses from the movie theater with the lenses popped out. I'm a dork. :)

What do you think?

Jason Wu was quoted as saying, "I'm ready to be here for a hundred years." And if he keeps making clothes as elegant and timeless as these, I truly believe he's well on his way of accomplishing that.

I'll talk to you guys soon! :) Bye! Oh, but don't forget to check out my $75 Target Giveaway. It's ending soon!

How do you remember?

Good morning everyone. :) First, I'd like to say thank you to everyone who supported, donated, or even just watched Stand Up to Cancer last night. Some of you might already know that my mother battled with cancer a number of years ago and the fight against cancer is very close to my heart.

If you don't know what Stand Up to Cancer is and you'd like to know more you can go to their website or check out the blog post I wrote earlier.

Okay, moving onto another equally somber topic. I normally try to keep my blog fun and upbeat because that's my personality but there are times that I feel that a serious post is necessary. And today's one of those days.

Today is September 11th. And I know that I don't have to explain what that means. I remember the moment that I found out about the twin towers and how little I felt. That was the first time I really realized how one group of people can cause such a huge ripple effect.

I also remember the sense of unity. Everyone didn't care about the silly things, we were all Americans. Even world-wide it seems that there was a sense of unity. Those memories will stay with me forever.

Let's take the time to remember, mourn, and thank the heroes from that day. What do you remember from that day?
