Career
Bassist Christa Hillhouse and guitarist Shaunna Hall had been roommates and met drummer Wanda Day when they joined a band she was playing in. When the three left that band they started playing as a three piece but after seeing Linda Perry sing at a solo performance Hillhouse and Hall asked her to join as vocalist. According to Perry, she and Hall were at Nightbreak, a San Francisco club, and when it was mentioned the threesome were looking for a vocalist, Perry announced she was a singer to which Hall replied "I know". Their first rehearsal was supposed to be at 6 PM on October 17, 1989, but shortly after 5 PM the Loma Prieta earthquake hit the San Francisco area. The band picked the name, 4 Non Blondes, after an incident in a San Francisco park where the band members were having pizza. Apparently, a family was walking by, and their little boy wanted to grab some left over pizza to feed the birds. He was told by his parents, "No, don't touch that, that's dirty from all the birds and people around here,” and they proceeded to give the band members a dirty look. The family was supposedly "very blonde", so they decided to call themselves 4 Non Blondes.
The band was signed to Interscope in July 1991 following a performance at the Gavin Convention where the band opened for Primus on Valentine's Day of the same year. As they began pre-production for their debut album, according to Hillhouse, Day was fired from 4 Non Blondes because of drug problems and was replaced by Richardson. In 1992 while recording Bigger Better Faster, More! the album's producer, David Tickle, felt that Hall's guitar playing was "not happening" so she was let go from the band as well. Other guitarists such as Cara Crash and Louis Metoyer were brought in to finish the record. Roger Rocha joined after completion of the album and would stay with the band until 1994. After 4 Non Blondes, Crash, and Day went on to join Malibu Barbi.Day died July 10, 1997.
Later work
4 Non Blondes contributed the song "Mary's House" to the film "Wayne's World 2" in 1993. They later contributed "Bless The Beasts And Children" to a 1994 The Carpenters tribute album If I Were a Carpenter and "Misty Mountain Hop" to the 1995 Encomium tribute album to Led Zeppelin. The group had disbanded in late 1994 during the recording of their second album, which was never completed. Lead vocalist Linda Perry went solo in 1995. Perry has since released solo work, produced and written songs on hit albums by Christina Aguilera, Alicia Keys, Pink, Gwen Stefani, Courtney Love and Kelly Clarkson.

4 Non Blondes
4 Non BlondesTwenty-five years and my life is still
I'm trying to get up that great big hill of hope
For a destination
I realized quickly when I knew I should
That the world was made up for this
Brotherhood of man
For whatever that means
And so I cry sometimes when I'm lying in bed
Just to get it all out what's in my head
And I, I am feeling a little peculiar
And so I wake in the morning and I step outside
And I take deep breath
And I get real high
And I scream from the top of my lungs
What's going on?
And I sing hey-yeah-yea-eah, eah hey yea yea
I said hey! what's goin' on?
And I sing hey-yeah-yea-eah, eah hey yea yea
I said hey! what's going on?
And I try, oh my God do I try
I try all the time
In this institution
And I pray, oh my God do I pray
I pray every single day
For a revolution
And so I cry sometimes when I'm lying in bed
Just to get it all out what's in my head
And I, I am feeling a little peculiar

The Bangles are an American all-female band that originated in the early 1980s, scoring several hit singles during the decade.
The early Bangles line-up of Susanna Hoffs (vocals/guitars), Vicki Peterson (guitars/vocals), Debbi Peterson (vocals/drums) and Annette Zilinskas (vocals/bass) recorded an EP in 1982, and released the single "The Real World". A legal issue forced the band to change their name at the last minute so they dropped "The" and added the letters "les" to the end to become Bangles. Their first EP was retitled Bangles and released. In 1983, Faulty Products issued a 12 inch "remix" single of "The Real World" to radio and media, but another setback came as the label folded. I.R.S. Records picked up distribution and re-issued the EP. After Zilinskas left the band to focus on her own project Blood on the Saddle, she was replaced by Michael Steele, formerly of the all-girl band The Runaways, Toni & The Movers, Slow Children and Elton Duck.
All this went some way to attracting the attention of Prince, who later wrote "Manic Monday" for the group. "Manic Monday" went on to become a #2 hit in the US, the UK and Germany, outsold at the time only by another Prince composition, his own "Kiss". The band's second album Different Light (1986) was more polished than its predecessor and, with the help of the worldwide #1 hit "Walk Like an Egyptian", saw the band firmly in the mainstream.
1988's Everything was another multi-platinum smash and included their biggest-selling single, the soft ballad "Eternal Flame". Co-writer Billy Steinberg came up with the title after Susanna Hoffs told him about the band's visit to Graceland, Elvis Presley's former estate in Memphis, Tennessee. An "Eternal Flame" in memoriam to Presley is maintained on the site, but on the day the band visited, the flame had gone out and its clear-plastic enclosure was flooded. When they asked what was in the box, they were told, "That's the eternal flame." The single became another worldwide hit. Hoffs was actually naked when she recorded the song, after being convinced by producer Davitt Sigerson that Olivia Newton-John got her amazing performances by recording everything while naked.
The working relationships within the band had broken down, and they went their separate ways shortly after. Hoffs embarked on a solo career, and Vicki Peterson toured as a member of the Go-Go's and the Continental Drifters.
In 2005, the Bangles announced the departure of Michael Steele. Steele was replaced by Abby Travis for live appearances, but is not an official member of the group. On December 31, 2005, Hoffs, Travis, and the Petersons performed "Hazy Shade of Winter" in front of Times Square and later "Eternal Flame" as part of Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve 2006. August 2007 saw the release of their first official live DVD, Return to Bangleonia - Live in Concert. In 2008, the band toured the US with dates in Las Vegas, Louisiana, Austin, Glasgow, and Ojai. Further dates included shows in Germany, the Netherlands, and at the popular Cornbury Festival in Oxfordshire, England.
In the spring of 2009, the Bangles returned to the studio to begin work on a new album.During an interview with Music Geek Media in May 2009, Debbi Peterson indicated that the album is in the early stages of production.
In 2009, the Bangles covered Lowen & Navarro's "We Belong" on "Keep The Light Alive: Celebrating The Music of Lowen & Navarro". The proceeds of the album benefit The Eric Lowen Trust, ALS Association Greater Los Angeles, and Augie's Quest.
Several artists have referred to the Bangles in their own songs. The Saw Doctors include an irreverent tribute to them, "I'd Love to Kiss the Bangles", on their 2003 album Play It Again Sham!.Alternative-country artist Robbie Fulks sings a wistful ode to "That Bangle Girl", a song identified as one of his "personal favorites", on his 2000 Very Best album. Although Fulks never says her name, the line "When the little one took the mike, I knew I'd fallen" suggests the particular "Bangle girl" he pines for is Susanna Hoffs, the shortest member of the group and frequent lead singer. Susanna Hoffs lent her voice for the video "We Are The Ones" supporting the presidential election campaign of Barack Obama.

History
Formation and early years (1981–1983)
Susanna Hoffs joined sisters Vicki and Debbi Peterson to form a band in Los Angeles in December, 1980. The trio briefly christened itself The Colours, then renamed itself The Supersonic Bangs, and shortly afterwards The Bangs. The band was part of the Los Angeles Paisley Underground scene, which featured groups that played a mixture of 1960s-influenced folk-rock and jangle pop with a more modern punk–ish/garage band undertone. In 1981, the threesome recorded and released a single ("Getting Out Of Hand" b/w "Call on Me") on DownKiddie Records (their own label). In 1981 Susanna Hoffs asked her friend, Patrick Hirtz, to manage the band. Patrick Hirtz later left the band to pursue the culinary arts. In 1982, the trio was signed to Faulty Products, a label formed by Miles Copeland. After Zilinskas left the band to focus on her own project Blood on the Saddle, she was replaced by Michael Steele, formerly of the all-girl band The Runaways, Toni & The Movers, Slow Children and Elton Duck.
Career peak (1984–1986)
The Bangles' full-length debut album on Columbia, All Over the Place (1984), captured their power-pop roots, featuring the singles "Hero Takes a Fall" and the Kimberley Rew-penned Beatlesque "Going Down To Liverpool" (originally recorded by Rew's band Katrina and the Waves). The record received good reviews, and the video for "Liverpool" featured Leonard Nimoy, which helped to generate further publicity. This came about due to a college friendship between Hoffs and Nimoy's son Adam, now a television producer. They received a much wider awareness serving as the opening act of Cyndi Lauper on her Fun tour.
Friction
There was friction among band members after the media began singling out Hoffs as the lead singer of the group, a result of Columbia Records' practice of releasing mostly singles on which Hoffs sang lead vocal. In fact, singing duties on the group's albums were fairly evenly divided among all of the band's members, all of whom wrote or co-wrote their songs. Hoffs starred in the 1987 film, The Allnighter, which was directed by her mother, Tamar Simon Hoffs, and was critically panned. That, and the firing of their manager Miles Copeland, further exacerbated the dissent among the band members. But they soon had another US #2 hit with a cover of Simon & Garfunkel's "A Hazy Shade of Winter" from the soundtrack of the film Less Than Zero, and the melancholic "If She Knew What She Wants", written by Jules Shear, reached the U.S. Top 30 and the German Top 20.1988's Everything was another multi-platinum smash and included their biggest-selling single, the soft ballad "Eternal Flame".
Break-up
Hoffs released a solo album When You're a Boy, produced by former Bangles producer David Kahne. The album spawned a minor hit "My Side of the Bed", and a Cyndi Lauper penned "Unconditional Love", but it stalled, and Hoffs was dropped from Columbia during the recording of her second solo album. The second solo album Susanna Hoffs, released in 1996, fared better critically, but it too had disappointing sales. Hoffs married film director Jay Roach (Austin Powers and Meet the Parents), and their union led to the Bangles' reunion of 2000. Vicki Peterson joined and contributed songs to the New Orleans band the Continental Drifters, which received rave reviews. Debbie Peterson had a short-lived career with Siobhan Maher under the name of Kindred Spirit, while Steele lived in semi-retirement in California.Re-form
The Bangles re-formed to record a song for the soundtrack of Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me, at the behest of the film's director (and Hoffs' husband) Jay Roach. The song chosen for the album was "Get The Girl" and was released in 1999. The reunion continued with a tour in 2000. Later the same year, the group was also inducted into the Vocal Group Hall of Fame. From 2001–2002, they were in the studio recording the album Doll Revolution. The album, featuring such songs as "Stealing Rosemary", "Ride the Ride", "Nickel Romeo", and the single "Something That You Said", was released in early 2003. The title track, which was written by Elvis Costello, was originally recorded for his 2002 album When I Was Cruel. Doll Revolution was a solid comeback success in Germany after the Bangles had performed in Germany's biggest television show Wetten dass, but failed to make any impact in other important markets such as the UK, the U.S. and Australia. In July 2004, the Bangles were made Companions of the Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts.In 2005, the Bangles announced the departure of Michael Steele. In popular culture
The Bangles have contributed to many other artists' works and to compilations. They provided the song "I Got Nothing" for the soundtrack album for the 1985 film The Goonies, and made a cameo appearance in Cyndi Lauper's music video for "Goonies 'R' Good Enough". Lauper later enlisted them for backup vocals in her 1986 hit song "Change of Heart". In 1988, while recording his album Full Moon Fever, Tom Petty and his lead guitarist Mike Campbell called on the group to provide backing vocals for the song "Waiting for Tonight". The song never made it to the album, but instead made the compilations Playback and Anthology: Through the Years. A cover version of "Eternal Flame" was a 2001 UK #1 for Atomic Kitten. In February 2001, the first-season Gilmore Girls episode "Concert Interruptus" involved a trip to see a Bangles concert, and featured cameos and music by the band. There were also several references to the Bangles throughout the rest of the series. Excerpts of the songs "Hero Takes a Fall" and "Eternal Flame" were featured in the concert that the Gilmore party attended. They also covered the Beatles hit "Good Day Sunshine" for the 2006 album All Together Now: Beatles Stuff for Kids of All Ages. The song "Eternal Flame" appears in the 2009 Japanese drama "Love Shuffle".In 2009, the Bangles covered Lowen & Navarro's "We Belong" on "Keep The Light Alive: Celebrating The Music of Lowen & Navarro". The proceeds of the album benefit The Eric Lowen Trust, ALS Association Greater Los Angeles, and Augie's Quest.

Eternal Flame
The Bangles
Close your eyes, give me your hand, darling
Do you feel my heart beating?
Do you understand?
Do you feel the same?
Am my only dreaming?
Is this burning an eternal flame?
I believe it's meant to be, darling
I watch when you are sleeping
You belong with me
Do you feel the same?
Am my only dreaming?
Or is this burning an eternal flame?
CHORUS (x2)
Say my name the sun shines through the rain
A whole life so lonely
And then you come and ease the pain
I don't want to lose this feeling
Oh, oh
Close your eyes, give me your hand, darling
Do you feel my heart beating?
Do you understand?
Do you feel the same?
Am my only dreaming?
Or is this burning an eternal flame?
Do you feel my heart beating?
Do you understand?
Do you feel the same?
Am my only dreaming?
Is this burning an eternal flame?
I believe it's meant to be, darling
I watch when you are sleeping

OPI So Many Clowns...So Little Time
Today, I have another obsession. OPI's newest collection, Femme Fatale, has just been released. It has a bit of circus theme and I adore the entire collection. I Juggle Men is a beautiful sheer, icy color that will add sparkle to any other polish you might have or look stunning on its own. Step Right Up is a super soft shade of pink that is perfect for any girl who wants a bit of color on their nails while looking completely natural [this is my little sister's favorite!]. In the Spotlight is a baby pink that is really quite beautiful.
While I loved all the colors, So Many Clowns...So Little Time is my absolute favorite! It is a soft, cream color that is almost white but not quite. I have worn this on my nails everyday since I got it. I haven't fallen in love with a nailpolish like this since I picked up my first OPI nailpolish, Got a Date To-Knight.
If you want to see swatches of all of these colors, click here. The lovely Beauty Bites has swatched all of them in beuatiful detail. This is the perfect spring color to wear. It won't clash with any of the bright colors you might wear. I think this collection is perfect for anyone who might be buying a little girl their first nailpolish. The color payout is great but the colors are super natural.
Also, don't forget to check out the OPI website. They have amazing tools to help their customers pick out the shades that would suit any skintones or nail length. I love the Try It On tool. Leave the name of your favorite nailpolish in the comments below!
FTC: I'm not being compensated for this post. OPI sent me these nailpolishes to review.
Style Highlights: Ginnifer Goodwin
Ginnifer Goodwin! I can't explain how much I adore this woman's sense of style. Its so cutting-edge without going Lady Gaga. She always looks effortless--which is a true sign of style. I know which look is my favorite. But tell me which one is yours in the comments below.
Ginnifer Goodwin in YSL pants, black bustier, and stain heels [left]. Ginnifer Goodwin in a red lace Valentino mini [right].
So chic! This harem pant and bustier combination was a stroke of genius. I adore the way that it looks like a cat suit almost. The bold gold accessories are so perfect as are her satin purple heels. On any other woman this look would've been too sexy and maybe a bit trashy but somehow, and I'm not quite sure how, but Ginnifer manages to keep this look effortless.
Valentino. A girl can never go wrong in Valentino. Well, a girl can but not Ginnifer. I love the bold color against her brunette hair. I adore the lace. So modern and classic without looking old. No jewelry and nude pumps complete the look. Just stunning.
Ginnifer Goodwin in Christian Dior [left] and Monique Lhuillier [right].
Another perfect example of how lace can be fresh and youthful. The color is stunning against her pale skin. Understated [but drool-worthy] shoes and simple diamond earrings complete the look. Ginnifer knows the art of not overwhelming an outfit with unnecessary accessories. She's very gifted in that sense. Plus, did I mention how much I love how she styled her hair in this picture? Because I do.
A little glitter can go a long way. I adore this dress on Ginnifer. The cut is very flattering--and a throwback to the time of Mad Men. The sheer top is very flattering and those red shoes are brilliant. A pop of color, especially red, is perfection when done right. And, by the way, this is done right.
Thank you for reading. I'll be back tomorrow. Please don't forget to follow and check out my second blog.
